How can you become GREEN?
We all have the ability to live a Greener Lifestyle and it starts with you! Individually and cooperatively we can work together to diminish our footprint through smart purchasing decisions and the way we live our life. All it takes is a little effort and together we can make a world of differences.
Adopting a greener lifestyle does not necessarily require you to give up the comforts and conveniences you’re used to. By being aware of the products you purchase, and making small adjustments to your daily life, you can contribute to a more sustainable future. The Atlantic Eco-Expo aims to connect consumers with businesses that sell sustainable products and services; however, you need to do your part at home to truly make a difference. Here are some small changes that can help minimize your eco-footprint.
Reduce waste and recycle - While this may seem obvious, the truth is many people do not recycle. This results in unnecessary waste, and can easily be avoided with small changes to your daily routine.
Bring reusable grocery bags - Millions of barrels of oil are consumed every year to make plastic disposable bags; these plastic bags also generate unnecessary waste.
Use refillable water bottles - Billions of plastic bottles are dumped into the world’s landfills every year. By using a refillable water bottle, you can help reduce waste and save money as well.
Conserve energy - The vast majority of the world’s electricity comes from non-renewable resources. Reducing the temperature of your home will reduce the amount of energy consumed, and your annual heating costs.
Conserve water – Running the water while brushing your teeth wastes up to 15 liters of water. Many people in the world can exist on just 11 liters per day. Water is a finite resource, so we should make a conscious effort to limit water waste.
Use alternative transportation – Using fuel contributes to global warming by releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. By carpooling or utilizing public transportation, you can greatly reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that you emit. Better yet – take your bike!
Use less paper - In order to limit the amount of paper, you must be conscious of your actions. Print on both sides of the page, and promote the use of e-mail and electronic social utilities for communication in the office.
Get a GREEN attitude - A green attitude is essential in order to promote a sustainable future. Get involved with or create your own green initiatives at home and in the workplace. Engage others to become proactive throughout their environmental decisions.
